Green IT is one of the Agenda points in priority list of almost all the CxO and Executive Management of leading Banks. I am referring to guys who's ears and eyes are always for innovation, reaching for higher value chain, brining convenience to the customer with 'Hidden' agenda of contributing to Top line or Bottom line in Balance sheet.
I liked the recent innovative way of saving paper and thus the Wood/Trees (Tiger Woods may not be able to save his image but, bankers are brave guys doing it :-)).....Wells fargo have decided to open up yet Another service (YAS) on their ATM. customer can opt for getting a E-receipt on his designated E-mail ID or can access all the e-receipts on it's NetBanking INBOX...Wow we are talking of saving lot on cost of paper, labour etc... FLM calls also may reduce as Consumer receipt printer will operate lesser.....good that is too much of take...
What is good about is the activation of service is through ATM only, thus AMT customers can opt for the option with out any hassles...sounds great...
I was just thinking what way we can go green on ATMs...
1. Consumer Receipts --- Great work by Wells fargo.. see lot more banks and ISO opting for it.
2. ATM itself can be Powered using Solar or Wind power...oops... talking foolish...nope.. I can ask merchant or petrol pump guy to host it....for additional money that they save on electric city bill is simply great. I can tie up with Wind energy/Solar energy equipment suppliers ,,any takers.
3. EJ - Electronic Journaling is enabled for quite some time... good additional fraction of kilo watts saved on 100 ATM setup annually.
4. Putting a LCD display can save some more Electrons from floating on Screen.... mostly done.
5. PC within ATM can be loaded with FLASH RAM instead of HDD...now a days PCs inside the ATM are having Green IT hardware or can be insisted.
6. Yet to see some innovation on Cash dispensing..
What more can be done apart from painting the ATM green :)) ???
